Trends come and go, but I find them useful to re-introduce classic textures and materials in new and exciting ways. It's really inspirational to see how furniture designers use familiar materials with inventive finishes and often be able to mix those pieces in with existing interiors.

I generally look for pieces that use quality materials and finishes in an unusual way. I like to see a classic piece with a twisted vibe. Take a look at these trendy pieces with classic textures I found at High Point Market…

A Classic Cane Comeback

Cane in the coastal area has always been a classic material and has recently made a big comeback. It's great because it adds a natural texture, is durable and can be used in many different ways. At the fall market, I saw it on coffee tables, side tables, chairs, headboards, and even ceiling lights.

Nautical Rope and Rush Fiber

Rope and rush fiber offers an instant nautical vibe without being kitschy.  Showrooms had pieces with just a hint of rope and some completely covered in rush.  Well-made pieces are super durable and can last for generations, giving that heirloom quality to new vacation home furnishings.

Weathered Wood Accents

This classic finish works well when you want to make a high-quality piece feel casual and approachable. Weathering the wood can be done in various ways and in endless finishes or stains. At Highpoint, I saw it in just about every showroom on all types of furnishings, outdoor and indoor, from the dining room to the bedroom. It just works!

What was most exciting about these three trends is that they have been around forever and are being re-invented for how we live now. I love them because they are the perfect materials to incorporate into the designs for my client's homes.
