MOLLY McGINNESS, DESIGNER
My goal is to design a home where you want to live. I want a home to look beautiful, but not be too pristine. Clients should be able to enjoy hanging out in their homes, welcoming friends and family, hosting events, or just vegging out by themselves. Whatever you want to do in your home, I want to make the design accommodate your needs. I specialize in second homes that are often used to host extended family vacations. I focus on whole room designs, using quality products and materials that are meant to last through years of use.
Aesthetically, I prefer to design a room to reflect the personality of the homeowner. If you aren’t sure what you want your home to express, we’ll discuss how you want to feel in each room. I like to push the boundaries of what you might be expecting and often clients are surprised at the outcome, only because I presented options they would not have thought of themselves. Isn’t that why you are hiring an interior designer?
I have been an interior designer for over 25 years, and started MMID in 1999 in Chicago, IL. In 2008 I moved operations to Cape Cod, MA and naturally have gravitated to vacation homes. I have a degree in interior design and am NCIDQ certified, but more importantly I have decades of experience working with furnishings and product vendors, contractors, architects and all kinds of tradesmen to solve the various challenges that are unique to each project. I believe there is always a solution.
In my pre-interior design life I earned a BA in International Affairs from The George Washington University. I lived in Japan for two years teaching conversational English. I backpacked through various southeast asia countries (before mobile phones!) I ended my wanderlust in Spain by teaching English in Madrid for a year before moving to Chicago. Traveling is wonderful and provides endless creative inspiration.
Outside of family and work, I set aside time for the beach and the barn. I consider these activities lifestyle hobbies and my ideal day would combine both a ride on my horse and a stroll on the beach.
